Cookies partners with Akanda to bring high THC strains to Europe

A new batch of Cookies is baking and this time, the company is headed to Europe. International medical cannabis platform company Akanda Corp. yesterday announced an exclusive, multi-year license agreement with Cookies to bring medical and future adult-use cannabis to Portugal.

The agreement gives Akanda the ability to cultivate, manufacture, and distribute Cookies strains, as well as sell Cookies branded products and merchandise in Portugal. The company plans to produce EU GMP certified, Cookies branded medical cannabis products with high THC at their facility in Sintra, Portugal. The agreement also permits Akanda to open and operate flagship Cookies branded pharmacies throughout Portugal.

How many Cookies are in the cookie jar now? Cookies has more than fifty-three retail locations across twelve US states and five countries. The company’s first venture into Europe was in 2020 when they opened a lifestyle store in Barcelona, Spain.

“The fact that Portugal decriminalized drugs back in the early 2000’s and people in the U.S. are still being locked up for cannabis 20 years later, shows the world, especially the U.S., that we can learn a lot from their forward thinking. The partners we chose in Portugal have one of the most advanced facilities I’ve seen and will be producing some of the best cannabis in the world. It’s partnerships like this that keep me excited about the growth and expansion of Cookies worldwide,” said Berner, co-founder and CEO of Cookies.
