WA Hottest Brands

Top Ten Hottest Washington-only Brands in February

While Washington was the second state in our union to legalize adult-use cannabis, it has held back on allowing out-of-state investments and maintained restrictions on how many licenses any one operator can own and limits on total cannabis output by cultivators and processors.

As Heraclitus of Ephesus noted circa 500 BCE, the only constant in life is change. With nearly $8 billion in cannabis sales since the inception of the legal market, it’s a matter of time before some of these iconic Washington brands begin expanding into new markets and major players come in looking for acquisition opportunities.

In this week’s Top Ten Hottest list, powered by Pioneer Intelligence’s consumer engagement Heat Index rankings, we slice the data to see which brands that are only operating in Washington were most effective in their social media engagement with customers. This data covers February 2021 across all product categories.

Pioneer measures consumer engagement of over 575 cannabis brands in the market by analyzing over 275 data points across three pillars of marketing activity.  Visit Pioneer Intelligence to learn more about their methods, along with their list of the country’s hottest brands.

WA Hottest Brands

At the top of the list of Gabriel Cannabis, an ultra-premium flower brand and fan favorite.  Gabriel is followed by Mfused, a focused concentrates company offering a wide variety of strain options. And rounding out the top three is Gold Leaf Gardens, a purveyor of fine flower and exquisite hash, but probably best known for their Cannagars under the Leira brand, which snuck in at the number 10 spot on this week’s social media list. That said, I would expect that Leira would top the charts when it comes to earned media. I encourage you to see their 24K Gold Gilded Cannagar and a $50,000 Cannagar with THC “diamonds” that was featured on 2Chainz Most Expensive.  (A special shout-out to L.A. “load another” Eddie who introduced me to the Cannagar during my days at Dope Magazine.  He might be the only person I know who can smoke a whole Cannagar by himself and still walk.)

Washingtonians are clearly old school. Almost all the hot brands, including Hollingsworth Cannabis and Seattle’s Private Reserve, focus on flower, pre-rolls, hash, and concentrates–the exception is Heylo Cannabis with a line of topicals. Other notables include Soulshine Cannabis, which donates a portion of its proceeds to support the Emerald City Pet Rescue.  And in the 8th spot is Phat Panda, which is already making moves to expand beyond Washington.

Pioneer Intelligence leverages data to benchmark marketing performance of consumer-facing cannabis brands. Built by a group of experienced and passionate marketers and data scientists, Pioneer helps industry stakeholders better understand how communications strategies resonate with audiences. In early 2021, Pioneer launched its first products, a suite of marketing performance scorecards. These reports present actionable data across three focus areas: social media, earned media and web-related activities. More information can be found on the company’s website, https://pioneer.buzz

Disclaimer:  Pioneer currently has more than 550 brands in their active pool with another 250 brands in their pipeline. Pipeline brands require six months of data before being added to the active pool. Lists of both active and pipeline brands can be found at pioneer.buzz/brands.
